Music meme

So, I started trying to do this song meme libation had, using iTunes instead of an mp3 player because I don't have an mp3 player, but I kept getting songs that were instrumental, or had lyrics in other languages, or said the title in the last line so it was way too obvious, or just repeated some short, non-distinctive phrase at the end so it was way too un-obvious... So, um, I'm doing the Megan version of the meme, which is like the movie meme I did last week--lines from some of my favorite songs.

Here you go--guess away! No Googling. And feel free to do your own music meme, however you like!

1. And she looks me in the eye, and says would you prefer the easy way? No, well okay then, don't cry. "Joyful Girl", Ani Difranco (baristababe)

2. And my question to you is: how did this come to pass? How did this one life fall so far and fast? "Blood Sings", Suzanne Vega

3. There's something you need me for, but I can't give any more, I gave it all away, less and less every day. "A Guy Like You", Lisa Germano

4. The battle's done, and we kinda won, so we sound our victory cheer. "Where Do We Go From Here?", Once More With Feeling (Buffy musical episode) soundtrack (mysticturtle)

5. 'Cause I don't have a bribery in place, no bright shining surface to my face. "This Is How It Goes", Aimee Mann (libation)

6. Where on your palm is my little line, when you're written in mine, as an old memory? "Jig of Life", Kate Bush (libation)

7. It's true that I stole your lighter, and it's also true that I lost the map. "Divorce Song", Liz Phair (habiliments)

8. It does not bother me to say this isn't love, because if you don't want to talk about it then it isn't love. "Anna Begins", Counting Crows (skutir)

9. Why am I too small to carry you? Why does twilight make me cry? "Not Only Human", Heather Nova

10. Now and again it seems worse than it is, but mostly the view is accurate. "Something Vague", Bright Eyes (tufted)

11. Can I be stupid for a minute? I was looking at that half-empty glass, waiting for the waiter. "Teller", Throwing Muses

12. And if you should need me through someone else's eyes, and if into me you see more than disguise. "Ted's Waltz", Beth Orton

13. I'll laugh until my head comes off, I'll swallow until I burst, until I burst. "Idioteque", Radiohead

14. And all that I want, and all that I need, and all that I've got is scattered like seed, and all that I knew is moving away from me. "Sadie", Joanna Newsom

15. You got to cry without weeping, talk without speaking, scream without raising your voice. "Running To Stand Still", U2 (kporterbooks)

15...U2! I love U2! Running to stand still. I have been listening to their music today while cleaning. Oh, they are the best. Bono is the ultimate star.

They've done a lot of great stuff. I mostly like the '80s and early '90s work--"Running To Stand Still" and "Acrobat" are my favorite songs. :)

5. Right artist, wrong song (and wrong album). :D

6. Yup! I love that song.

13. Band with a male vocalist, song set to a dance/trance-y sort of beat.

Weird, I was singing the words to that tune and they worked so I went with it. "This is How it Goes," but that may not be the title . . . I am not cheating!

That's it! :D It's from Lost In Space--do you not have that album? It's actually the only one of hers that I really like (which is weird, because I *love* that album, but am so-so on all the others--though the Magnolia soundtrack is pretty good, too).

I love it and always take it on road trips. :) Slowly I am beginning to love it as much as "I'm with Stupid" and "Bachelor No. 2," my two favorites of hers (cannot choose one over the other).

Yeah...now I know how little contemporary music I know. I could do my own meme, but my guess is no one will know my songs any more than I know any of these. But I like the lyrics :)

It's mostly stuff I listened to in high school and university--I haven't gotten into many new artists in the last few years. And some of them are a little obscure.

I would still like to see your favorite lyrics even if I didn't know any of the songs! :D

T Bone Burnett has the Midas touch as a producer. He's produced a number of really sublime albums (The Revelator by Gillian Welch, August and Everything After by Counting Crows, Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams by the Bo Deans, etc.)
