Google help

A few months ago, I made up a website for my writer's group as a subdomain of my main site. I've put in meta tags and all that, but the site's still not showing up on Google, even when I do a search for the exact name.

Anyone with better Google-fu than me know why that might be, and if there's anything I can do about it?

Thanks in advance!

Do you have any outside links that Google's spiders can follow to the site? BTW, I thought at first you may have a "nofollow" command in your code, but you don't, so I'm stumped.

I have a link to it in my LJ profile, but that's it. It's a pretty small group so I'm not sure where else I could have links to it (none of the other members have websites), but I'll see what I can do. Thanks! :)

Agree with the above comment. Get people to link to you or link to others. Also, add a few general tags about writing. Does your site show up in Yahoo! and other engines?

I don't think it's showing up anywhere. Will try to get some more links up. Thanks!

The spiders may not have gotten there yet. You can submit your url:

http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl

And they will show up and start indexing. Another good way to get Googleconnected is to have people link to the site with the title of the site (like we did that Googlebomb for LJ, for Flash Burnout.)

What they said. I was just about to post the same URL. It's a faster way to get your content up on there as the spiders then go through all the links.

What they said -- other sites linking you is very helpful. It's also important to keep updating the site. Frequently updated sites will show up near the top on Google. Having a blog or a news section that you frequently add to would do the trick.
