OT, but it needs to be said

Math is evil.

May it die a horrible, torturous thousand deaths.

Preferably before my GRE appointment in October.

The worst part is when the check comes and everybody becomes a monkey who cannot add. We all sit around the table at the restaurant and feel ourselves devolving as we pass the check around and scratch our heads. (Thinking about the GRE gives me the willies.)

Re: *whimper*
Actually, the worst part is that somewhere in my closet I have a medal for being in the upper 3rd percentile or some such for the national math competition in grade 11. I can do math. I just hate it. And it seems I've forgetten a great deal of it through avoidance (the only math I've taken since grade 11 was stats two years ago, because it was required).

Most of the mistakes I make are laziness ("I can't be bothered to figure out the most accurate way of doing this because it's making my brain hurt") or haste ("I can't be bothered to read the question properly because I'm too busy trying to speed through it because it's making my brain hurt"). Now that I've refamiliarized myself with the formulas and strategies, there are only a couple that I don't understand even after I've read the explanation.

Practice practice practice. Thank god for the verbal section. That's actually almost fun. :D

Re: *whimper*
Funny--kind of the same with me. It's not that I can't do the math--I took up to Pre-Calc in high school and always made A's and B's in math. But it makes my brain hurt, too! I feel like numbers are wiggling around and changing when I'm not looking and they just aren't as familiar and stable as words (though most people would think the opposite).
