Writing Retreat

Some good news--it looks like my writers group is going to be able to book a lovely cottage for a weekend that works well for everyone. Yay! I just have to send off a deposit check, and when the owner gets it, it'll be official. It looks like a great place: right on the water, on an acre of forested land, with a dock and a canoe and a fire pit and all that good cottage-y stuff. I can't wait! :D

I haven't found any kind of children's/YA or fantasy/SF-friendly writers' group in my area.

See, I had the exact same problem--so I made my own SF writers group. :D Posted ads around the universities and in local bookstores, got everything organized, and we've been going strong with 6-8 members at any given time for three and a half years now. Don't know if it'll work in your area, but might be worth a try!

Hey, I checked your profile and realized you're in Ontario, too. Whereabouts are you?

We're considering, if this year's retreat goes well, trying to do a bigger one next year and inviting people outside the group. Maybe you'd be able to join us. :)

I'm in Stratford -- not too far away!

Ooh, it sounds wonderful. I love all those cottagey things. Especially fire pits. Have fun and I hope you get some good writing done!

I love cottage-y stuff, too. Not having a car makes it difficult to get out into cottage country, though, so I'm glad to have a chance now. Thanks for the well wishes! :)

I'm jealous. That sounds so nice. But I have a feeling I'd be doing more canoeing, hiking, and roasting marshmallows than writing. ;)

Hee hee. Yes, I suspect I will be taking many a break for other activities. But hey, as long as I spend at least half the day writing, I figure I'm doing pretty well. :)
