Yay!

'Round the end of October, I'm going to see Philip Pullman and Megan Whalen Turner!

I was just feeling a little sulky because all the interesting conferences seemed so far away and unaffordable, and then I stumbled across a post about this on the Verla Kay message board. Perfect! Pullman--well, 'nuff said--and I've read and enjoyed some of Kenneth Oppal's work, and heard lots of great stuff about Turner (I've put her first book on hold at the library so I can read at least it ahead of time). Plus it appeals to the logical/scientific side of me as well as the artistic side.

Anyone want to join me? :D

I'm not going to be at the conference itself, but I'm trying to set up a meeting with MWT on the Friday night over on sounis...

Neat! Would that be during Pullman's talk/before/after?

Probably around suppertime on the Friday night, before Pullman's talk? I'm not sure, as we're still trying to confirm with MWT. If you're around then, it would be neat to meet you!

apparently my SIL knows Megan...I'm not sure in what capacity, but when THE THIEF came out, she gave me a copy and said, "We know her. Read this." I did. I liked it, though I haven't yet gotten into the second and third books.

Hope you have a great time!

Hey, maybe you'll get to meet her some time! Got that family connection. :D I've heard great things about her books, so I've been meaning to read them anyway--this just gives me a push to get going.

The second and third books are, IMO, exponentially better than the first. I thought the first was okay but didn't see anything that special about it; after reading II and III, though, I was firmly hooked. (And now I love Book I as well, but it took me another reading to really appreciate it.)

Hey Megan, I recently discovered your blog and friended you. Given who'll be at that conference, and given that you write YA, I don't see how you'll have anything but fun.

Jealous! I can't go see Pullman thanks to college/work/general lack o' funds. Pooh. You'll have to tell me all about it!

And hey, did you see this other GUTG? http://www.sherisinykin.com/current_books.htm
