Retreat Report

So, as many of you know, my writers group invaded cottage country for five days this past week, and had an even more wonderful time than last year! This cottage was a little bigger, and a little brighter, and even more secluded (about an acre of land--we couldn't see our neighbors on either side even when we looked *really* hard for them). It was right by the lake, with a nice breeze that kept away the bugs, so most of us did our writing in lounge chairs under the trees.

The cottage:

The weather was sunny for all but one afternoon, though generally too cool for swimming--we did get in once. However it was great for the writing, and for picnicking by the lake, making smores over the campfire, and staring up at the stars from The Rock.

The view of the lake, including The Rock:

View of the cottage from The Rock:

For the most part, our schedule was simple: have breakfast (while discussing writing and other stuff), write, have lunch (more discussion), write, short break for wandering/reading/swimming in the middle of the afternoon, write, have dinner, long discussion interspersed possibly a little more writing before heading down to the firepit and/or Rock. The latter it got the more bizarre those discussions became. Thankfully we all have pretty much the same, er, unusual sense of humor, but not doubt anyone who heard our strange comments about cybernetic zombie elves (CZEs for short!) or aquatic raccoons, followed by bursts of uncontrollable laughter, decided to steer well clear.

All of us on The Rock (it was rather windy that day, hence the jackets and blown hair):

Then, sadly, we had to leave. But it was a most productive and enjoyable time for all. We are talking about possibly doing a whole week next time!

A whole week there sounds like a very good idea. ^.^ Love the pic of the lake.

Thank you! Honestly, I wish every time I was ready to do a first draft, I could just zip off to a cottage for a couple weeks. I'd get my rough drafts done real fast that way!
