Where we begin

A few people commented that the narrating voice in "Frozen" seemed a bit mature for a 13-year-old, so out of curiosity I dug into my old archives to see what I was writing at 13, with amusing results. Below you will find a section of a story called "Our Destiny" which I wrote shortly after my 13th birthday. Unedited.

Possessed magicians! Talking cats! Castle windows with the wrong kind of locks! Laugh as you will.

Speaking of "Frozen", I decided I could fore-go another rewrite for now and settled for merely line-editing. Am awaiting the verdict.

*sigh of relief... or something*

Just shined up "Seven Years" and sent it off to Strange Horizons because, well, it seemed like a good place to start. I've been told F&SF publishes flash but I don't recall seeing much (any?) in the issues I have. Suppose it'll be worth a try if/when the story comes back.

Preliminary responses to "Frozen" are promising. Perhaps I'll be able to have that off by the weekend.

Would feel good about this except I'm still in shock after calculating my income tax. I made a lot more last year than I did previously. I have a balance owing. It is big.

This is the problem with being self-employed. You start thinking you actually get to keep everything you're paid.

No worries, it's not a huge dent in my savings. But enough to make me gulp.

On a more positive note, am half-way through Perks and very much enjoying it. Chobsky really captures that awkwardly sensitive teenage boy voice. I've started wondering how much of the story is based on his own life. Not that it matters; it's just entertaining to speculate. :)
