dream

Reaching that point...

...where I can no longer tell whether the words on the page are brilliant or crap or anywhere in between.

With Signi that is, of course. Partway through the edits on Chapter 7, which is becoming Chapter 6. Have been making such major changes that each chapter edit is really three--the edit on paper, the changes I make to that edit as I put it into the computer, and the line edit I do to what's on the computer. Hence the length of time it's taking. I may be able to manage one more quick run-through once it's all done, but otherwise... I'm not going to be able to look at this thing again for a looooong time.

But at least I can tell it's getting better with each run-through. With the fatigue, there is still satisfaction.

The writing group is having a go at chapter one tomorrow. Let's hope they don't see the need for any huge changes or I may hemorrhage. ;) I don't think I'll be sending any of it out to anyone else from now on. At this point, it is what it is.

A nice little surprise--some books I ordered in December and then forgot about arrived last week. Added to my collection:

Crazy Jack by Donna Jo Napoli
Fahrenheit 451 and The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury
The Woman Who Gave Birth To Rabbits by Emma Donaghue
Callahan's Crosstime Saloon by Spider Robinson
Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
The Tale of the Unknown Island by Jose Saramago

Plus, the boy picked me up a couple books I've been wanting from his store:

The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat by Oliver Sacks
Gravity's Rainbow by Thomas Pynchon

Hurray for the ever-growing library!
