Kung Fu

I received my first sash (white) last night in my kung fu class! :D

In our style (and maybe in most/all kung fu styles--I just know that when my brother took karate lessons, he got his white belt right at the beginning), you have to learn the first set of blocking techniques and the first form (which is called Five Wheel Stance) before you get even to white level. So I'm proud to have made it this far, and kept at it, and now I have a little proof that I've been training.

Funny thing is, I wasn't expecting it at all. I knew I still had a few things to improve on the form. At the end of class, all the students take turns doing the form they've been working on for the rest of the class to watch. I get so focused on what I'm doing during mine that I don't really notice what's going on around me. I saw my sifu (teacher) go to the side of the room near the beginning, and wondered what he was doing, but then I stopped paying attention. When I finished my form I was about to wobble back to the wall, and everyone started pointing me back to the middle of the room. And there was my sifu with the sash. :)

Now Chris will have to catch up! I've been able to make it to a few more classes than he has, so I'm a tiny bit ahead.
