I had this weird brainstorm today as I was thinking about what changes I might make to THE HALFWAY HERO (which I'm planning on starting revisions on in a week, once my holidays start). I say weird because it seems so very obvious now that it's occurred to me.

Write the book the way I'd want it to be if I were reading it.

I mean, yes, I write the sort of books I like to read. I often write books that I wish there were more of for me to read. But that's more of a general sense-of-the-thing approach. I've never actually sat down as I was outlining and asked myself, "If I were reading this story, how would I want it to begin?" "If I were reading this story, what would I want to happen after this event?" and so on.

I don't know if this is actually going to work. Mostly because my favorite bits of stories (as a reader) are often the bits it didn't even occur to me might happen. But I'm interested to see how it'll go. :D

Have you had any new and interesting brainstorms about the writing process lately?
