Year in review

I have to say, 2008 has been pretty good to me. Not everything worked out exactly the way I hoped, but ultimately I think even the unexpected turned out pretty well--and heck, it's the year I sold my first novel! That trumps just about everything. :D

Highlights of the year

January: Sold GIVE UP THE GHOST to Holt.
Got my first set of author photos.

March: Spent a very lovely ten days in Italy.

July: Celebrated five years with Chris.
Received my green sash in Fut Gar Kung Fu.

August: Had a wonderful five days at my writers group's annual writing retreat.
Completed the editing process on GutG and saw it go on to production.

September: Moved to a new apartment because we were forced to leave our old one--which resulted in an awesome new writing space for me.

October: Finished a reader-ready draft of my newest WIP, one of the most fun books I've ever written (for the writer, at least ;) ).

December: After much polishing, saw POSSESSING LUCY go on submission as my option book with Holt.

Books in 2008

This was also a great year in reading, as I got to read many of my friends's WIPs, all of which I hope to see on bookshelves someday soon, as well as several ARCs courtesy of the 2009 Debs and Class of 2K9. My favorite reads in 2008 (not counting ARCs; those'll get noted in 2009 when you all can read them too :) ):

THE CURSE OF CHALION by Lois McMaster Bujold (adult fantasy)
THE GOOSE GIRL by Shannon Hale (YA fantasy)
THE YEAR OF SECRET ASSIGNMENTS by Jaclyn Moriarty (YA contemporary)
THE MAGIC THIEF by Sarah Prineas (MG fantasy)
BLINDNESS by Jose Saramago (adult SF)

Looking forward to in 2009:

-cover!
-ARCs!
-BEA!

and of course

-seeing GutG on the bookstore shelves!!!

Happy New Year, everyone! I hope 2009 brings everything you wish for!

Very cool -- I love your wrap-up, and I'm so glad that after all your hard work and perserverance, you're seeing your book come to public life! 2009 will be great!

What a summary! May next year be even better--if such a thing is possible.

(and thanks for the book mention!)
