3 Books, 3 Winners, 1 March Giveaway!

As promised, here’s your March giveaway! Up for grabs, the three books pictured below:

(HOURGLASS–ARC, SCARLETT FEVER–hardcover, A CONSPIRACY OF KINGS–ARC)

Entering is simple: just ask me a question you’d like me to answer on this blog. About writing, publishing, me–anything you like. Just keep in mind…

-Your question should be unique, so specific questions are better than general ones, and you should check the already posted questions before entering.

-You may enter more than once–you can ask one question for each day the giveaway is open!

-Questions that are too personal or relate to confidential information will be discarded; please use your discretion.

-If you have a preference of which book(s) you’d like to win, please note it in your entry.

Open now until the night of March 9th, to anyone in the world. I will pick the three winners at random on the 10th. Please include your e-mail address so I can contact you!

Happy questioning! :)

How much information about the plot of your book would you recommend revealing in a query letter? Up to the climax? How the story concludes? Thanks!

Do you feel like not putting the main characters in Give Up the Ghost affected your book's reception? This has intrigued me ever since Sarah Rees Brennan brought up that point about her own debut novel.

I'd like the Megan Whalen Turner ARC if I win. :)

This sounds like a really interesting question, but I think I'm missing a word! Not putting the main characters where? :)

*dies laughing*

That should've been, "not putting the main characters in a romantic relationship."

Was writing for young adults a conscious decision you made, or perhaps simply a direct result of the fact that you started writing as a young adult, or something you realized later on in the creative process (i.e. "Oh, wow, this first draft I have here is clearly a young adult novel!"), or...? Put more concisely: how did you end up writing fiction for young adults?

I would love to read any of the books. :)

How long did it take to come up with the title for your book? Was it something you just knew instantly or did you have to mull it over a long time?

How do you go about deciding character names? Is it something you put a lot of thought into? Or something that just springs on you as you plan? Why was Cass, Cass?

chanelle(@)chanellegray.com
And would love Hourglass or Scarlett Fever actually haha.

In 'Give Up The Ghost' you focused more on Cassie's everyday life than her paranormal activity. Was this intentional for the storyline (ie, her gift helped her personal life) or did it just happen that way?

When you write, do you write out of order or chapter by chapter as the story unfolds?
