we only come out at night

Why is it that the best inspirations always come when you're going to sleep? I know the "scientific" explanation: you're tired and so your mind is less inhibited by the internal critic. But really. Couldn't it see fit to happen before I crawl into bed and am half-asleep.

I need to start keeping a notebook on my bed.

Two inspirations last night. One will be discussed shortly, above. The other is an idea for reworking a short story I wrote a few years ago. Not sure if anything will come of it, but I have been thinking I'd like to get a little more short fiction out there while I'm working on the novel. It gets depressing when you have nothing left to send to the pro markets (which hasn't happened yet, but will if I don't kick the muse into gear).

Speaking of depressing, the story idea is. All of my short work seems to be very dark. I don't know why. It's starting to bug me, really. I want to write something light and fluffy and fun. It'd be a challenge. Maybe I'll see if I can somehow turn the dark idea into something light. Heh.

And speaking of the novel, passed the 50 page mark, finished chapter 6, and onward it goes today.

And finally, on a totally different note, I seem to be getting old. I can't listen to music even when all I'm writing is a LJ entry, even when the music is instrumental. Dammit, I'm not even 23 yet. Where's the justice? ;)

I know what you mean about getting a bit tired of the dark stuff. I have this one short story with an interesting premise that I'm quite fond of but it has a rather depressing, violent end. I'm thinking of turning the whole thing on its nose and making it more of a black comedy . . . I think all the Terry Pratchett I've been reading is beginning to have an influence on me.

i'm so in touch with that emotion. unfortunately, i DO keep a notebook by the bed and rarely use it. when i get half asleep i'm afraid to use it - i'll wake up again and it takes me forever to get sleepy to begin with (the downside of an adhd brain). the other time i get ideas is in the shower. now, THAT is annoying!
