Changing lanes

Got about 1500 words done on The Nines before I decided it just wasn't grabbing me--and there's no point in trying to write something that isn't even grabbing me. Perhaps it needs to simmer a little more. The younger MG novel idea (with superheroes et al... well, one superhero) has still been tickling at me, so I jotted down a rough first chapter today and outlined the rest. Will see where that goes. Have been feeling rather ill the last few days so my focus has not been great.

In the interests of preparing for said MG novel (temporarily titled Bad Luck Boy) I re-read a book I remember enjoying as a kid, Louis Sachar's Sideways Stories From Wayside School. It's cute, but I can see why it didn't really stick with me (I didn't remember anything about it except that I'd read it and liked it).

Also read A Handful of Dust by Evelyn Waugh--very good book, much recommended. Satire with characters who are (actually, most of the time, mostly) human. Who would have thought it was possible? ;)

Read the first ten pages of Perdido Street Station by China Mieville, but didn't feel I was alert enough to continue. Lots of description at the beginning, needs attention to absorb.

May have good news to report tomorrow. Think happy thoughts for me!

After recently re-watching the first two Alien movies, I realize that you resemble Sigourney Weaver. (Also, unless children come and take over the library, I should be able to finish Signi tonight and write you a nice long response to your e-mail. Sorry it's taken me so long.)

Do I? I've never gotten that one before. But Sigourney Weaver is cool, so it's definitely taken as a compliment. ;)

And thanks for your comments on Signi! They're very helpful. You don't need to apologise--I'm not going to start the final edit until February anyway, so they're certainly not late coming.
