Currently listening to (and seeing live, in five days): Zwan
Music to write to: Silence, or, occasionally, instrumental music to set a mood (Tangerine Dream, David Arkenstone, Chopin, anime soundtracks, etc.). My ability to concentrate on writing and listening at the same time has severely declined since high school. :P
Music to brainstorm to: Most recently was using the Arjuna soundtrack and and old compilation of artists from mp3.com, but anything powerful, instrumental or lyrical, will do. I have nearly 400 CDs, so there's plenty to choose from. Probably get more ideas from music than any other one source. Every song has a character, some have a whole story, and a few have several, depending on how you listen.
Quote lyrics in story? No, for copyright concerns, and because I want my words to speak for themselves. I do sometimes have a soundtrack for a story, or at least a theme song, for inspiration. The only times I've been able to use them publicly were with my on-line projects (still have a copy of the official soundtrack to Blood of the Rose).
Made a tape soundtrack for my life ("Themes of mlc") in a meta-mood several years ago. Somewhat outdated, but much of it still hits that inner chord.
If the song fits, sing along.
