everybody's gotta learn sometime

3/4 of the way through the Signi edit. Figure I should have it done in the next two weeks no problem. Of course, this supposedly "final edit" is no longer final--I've ended up changing so much content that I'm going to need to go over it one more time just for sentence-level stuff. Reading aloud and all that. For some reason, I can't seem to edit content and style at the same time. But at least the feeling I have is this isn't as good as it can be, but I can fix that, not this isn't as good as it can be, but it's the best I can do.

When this goes out, it's going to be damn ready.

Keeping an eye on response reports from a couple of markets that currently have stories of mine. Have seen several reports of responses in much less time than my stories have been at each. Am hoping this means said stories have been passed up the ladder, not that they happened to end up with an editor who had the flu plus misplaced files plus went on a week's vacation. ;) Getting the itch to be writing shorts again. Only have four in total out there now.

Sometimes I have to remind myself that this is only the beginning. That even if this novel, or the next, or the one after that doesn't get picked up, I have years and years and years to improve my craft and make my name. I'm sure I'll get there eventually. Remembering that makes it easier to focus on enjoying the story and the shaping of it, instead of worrying about whether it's going to be quite good enough.

'Cause really, you just never know. It's that you're doing stuff that you love that really matters in the end.
