Just shy of 10,000 words on In Memory Of. It's been balking, I think because my mind is already on next week's busy-ness. I worry too much. Such is life.

But hey, five more days, and I get two 12-15 hour work-weeks. Hurray! Current goal: finish the novel by the end of August. And also get some of the non-fiction and other projects on their way.

A quick book rec for those who read young adult: give Flipped (Wendelin Van Draanen) a try. The first few chapters started to put me off because the plot was seeming trite, but then it got rolling in a whole different direction, and turned into a very thoughtful, non-preachy, and believable story about our perceptions of people and how they can change. The two 14-year-old narrators sound too mature for their age sometimes, and the prose can be a bit wordy, but the story sucked me in so deep I stopped noticing. :) Plus it's got a sharp sense of humour and the most unique and powerful female protagonist I've seen in a while. Check it out!

Now I am off to work on secret plans and clever tricks... or maybe just to get the laundry.
