Well, long time no write. Here, at least--I have been writing otherwise.

Slowly but surely! I should be adding at least 2000 more today. The rewriting's been going well, I think. I've been tying subplots and themes together so everything's more closely intertwined, smoothing out the character motivations. Toward the end it's going to get difficult again, because I've got a lot to change there, but I have figured out how I want to change it.

In other news, I have started reading for the next novel project. My muse seems to be leaning toward the high fantasy YA idea that first hit me way back when I went to Britain the first time. I love the concept, but I'm not so keen on the idea of building a whole new world. Unfortunately, the concept doesn't work in any other setting. Grrr. So I'm reading a bunch of older-MG and YA fantasy to get me in the right mindset. Just finished Crown Duel (by Sherwood Smith); next up is The Witch's Boy (by Michael Gruber), and I've got a bunch more from the library.

Libraries are wonderful things, aren't they? I've been mostly avoiding mine for a while because I am absolutely terrible for remembering to return things on time. Since I've started borrowing regularly again (a couple months ago) I've already managed to pay six bucks or so in late fines. But hey, it's supporting the library system. I'm looking at volunteering at the library used book store; may be starting that in December.

Anyway, as for the new novel possibility, I'll be working on an outline for that over the next few weeks, and with a little luck I'll be able to start actually writing it once the current draft of In Memory Of is done.

I wish I could get started with Whichway Hall, but that idea still feels half-baked. As frustrating as it is, I seem to need to let novel ideas simmer for a couple of years before they're ready to be written.

That's all folks.
